About

Built from the field, not a classroom.

Founder Lavester Beard spent years in concrete finishing and construction management — doing the work, making mistakes, asking questions and leading crews.

The story

The same thing happened over and over. A new worker would show up on their first day motivated and willing, and spend the first two weeks lost — not because they couldn't do the work, but because nobody had ever explained the basics. The words. The measurements. Why the sequence matters. What the crew expects when someone says "go grab a screed."

From the management side the cost was obvious: slower production, more supervision, avoidable mistakes, and good people quitting in the first month because they felt behind from the start.

That led to one question: what if workers could learn the fundamentals before Day One?

Day Zero Ready is the answer to that question. It is a readiness standard — structured preparation that happens before the first shift, so the first shift can actually be about the work. New workers should not have to learn every important lesson the hard way.

The mission is personal: family, real opportunity, and building careers. The goal is to give the next generation a stronger starting point — practical knowledge, confidence, jobsite awareness, communication and readiness to keep learning — and to build something that outlasts its founder. The first pathway is the Concrete Flatwork Track.

“If I can help somebody walk onto a jobsite more prepared than I was when I started, then Day Zero Ready is doing what I built it to do.”
— Lavester Beard, Founder

Preparation starts before Day One.

Whether you are starting in construction or hiring people who are, Day Zero Ready builds the foundation before production starts.
